On 18th July 2016, a heavy thunderstorm hit Sengkang, with multiple thunder flashes and kabooms caused by lightnings which not only woke my wife and little Olivia up, but was so strong that the power box also tripped, turning everything in the house off.
Louise woke me up to restart the power box and to ensure that all the windows are closed so that no rain water would splash on electrical sockets and appliances, and when I came back to the room, I saw little Olivia sitting up and looking unsure and frightened.
Being a father, I scooped her up and placed her on my chest and with her head over my left shoulder, and held her close, and she held me too. I held her for about 5-10 minutes, and Louise tried to carry her back to bed (it was about 1 am so pretty late) but Olivia just wanted to cling to me a little more - I think that she was afraid of the thunder and lightning.
I kept holding on to her tightly, patting her back and explaining to her what rain, thunder and lightning was, and telling her that it's all ok, and that she can go back to sleep soon, and both her parents are with her.
I then lifted and extended her to Louise, and she reached out to her mummy willingly, and waited for me to turn off the lights and to join them in bed.
Wow.
What an experience as a father.
And I thought about God and Christ, and I felt that I could understand, to a very small degree, what a father's love is. I...would give up my life for her and my family as well.
